Greetings,
I am a new member with a new-to-us 1999 Safari TREK. The suburban water heater has a “fluffy” flame with yellow ends, has a propane smell when running, and is obviously burning too rich. This model has a fixed burner tube with no “air shutter” adjustment as shown in on-line manuals for later water heaters. I have cleaned the burner tube and flushed soot of of the chimney, but the problem persists.
Has anyone else had this problem?. I contacted Suburban to see if a burner tube with an air shutter could be used on my water heater, but they referred me to any of their service centers, since they understandably don't want an owner to touch a propane fuelled product.
I am tempted to drill a hole or enlarge the existing hole in the burner tube, but thought to ask this forum for any advice (And I will contact a Suburban service center before making any back yard modifications).
Thanks,
