Hi, I'm new to this forum & RV's, but not new to modifying stuff. My wife and I will be full-timing as soon as I can finish making our 'new to us' class A motorhome, suit our needs.
So far I have changed our diesel-pusher engine cover/bed pedestal from a King-sized to a Queen sized bed. This is for manuverabilty around the bed. Just cutting down the lid by 5″ per side compromised the structure of the lid, so I had to make a new one. I'm in the process of moving the outer walls of the pedestal inboard that same 5″ I had to remove from the lid. The twin bed-side drawer-sets will be my next targets. The stock width will now be expanded by the 5″ gained from cutting down the bed's width. Now we should be actually be able to use those drawers! The stock width was only 7″! By the time I rebuild the cabinetry for continous drawer width, we should be about 14″ wide. That's a much more usable size.
Complicating the bedside table/drawer rebuilding, is the power-cord placement, which takes up the lower half of the drawers on My side of the bed. I'm going to make the cord detachable so it can be stored elsewhere, then insulate/seal up the access door, which lets in all kinds of road dust right into those same drawers! What a design …
Continuing with the mod's for the bedroom is carpet removal/replacement with vinyl planking from 'Lowe's' and new overhead cabinets down both sides of the room. Last but not least, a 22″ flatscreen on a tilt/swivel mount ( and reroute the antenna wiring from one side of the room to the other.
Other mod's will be tackled after these 1st ones are done. What I don't want is to get the whole motorhome torn-up all at once. I'm thinking mod's like these are best handled one room at a time.
Glad to be here!
