Trying the SPP6E boost mod - a question about fan hookup

Found you folks because of the Supco SPP6E mod on your site. Here's where I am ….

I have a Carrier 15000btu A/C ducted unit. It came with a 45mfd/12mfd dual-value capacitor, wired like this

Common junction - 3 white wires, 2 red wires (one of the red goes to a PTC)

Fan junction - 1 brown wire

Herm junction - 2 blue wires (one to the PTC)

I bought the SPP6E and a 12mfd run capacitor (the run cap only has two junctions), because Carrier quit making my air conditioner and I can't find the original dual-purpose cap anywhere.

I had no problem cross-wiring from the single dual-purpose cap to the two caps until I realized I'm not sure what to do with the brown fan motor wire.

Assuming (and all that it implies) I use one side of the run cap for common and the other side for the blue compressor wire, do I also put the brown fan motor wire on the same junction as the compressor wire, or do I need to go back to the parts place and get a three-junction run capacitor …. or have I looked at this all wrong in the first place?

Any advice would help … thanks, john

Just so you know … completed my education with a little help (ok, lot of help).

What I was dealing with is a dual-run capacitor (45mfd/12mfd 370wvac), not a start/run cap that I thought it was. There was no start capacitor, just the PTC thermistor. For those thinking of using the Supco SPP6E I can tell you that the mod shown on this site is a very good idea.

I installed a 45mfd compressor run cap, a 12mfd fan motor run cap, and used the SPP6E in place of the PTC thermistor. My 15000 btu Carrier starts faster, smoother, and runs great.

Thanks to the modmyrv folks who taught me about the Supco SPP6E and gave me enough info in the forum to figure out what to do.

Everyone travel safe … john
