My fifth wheel has the typical entertainment center on the left as you climb the steps to the bedroom. The superslide covers it with 4″ clearance when retracted. The opening for the TV (which I haven't bought yet) is about 26″ wide. Since I need to get a TV, I first thought I might get a 32″ LCD since you can usually get a refurb on eBay for about $300! This would give a nice size picture relative chairs and sofa in the back of the living room area, etc.
At first I thought perhaps I could either mount one on a slide-out shelf or articulating arm and “park” it at an angle in the entertainment center opening when not in use. But after using a cardboard template, it became obvious that there still would not be enough clearance when the slide is retracted.
There is a very narrow wall on the right side of the opening - about 6″ or so - with one side on the inside of the TV opening and the other side that simply has the thermostat on it. It occurred to me that if one “notched out” that wall along the right side of the opening, then suddenly I would have about 10″ or more from the back of the notch to the slide - more than enough clearance for even the thickest LCD. Yes, it would protrude a little into the door opening going up to the bedroom, but one could gently move it aside with an articulating arm or a swivel. It also could then be retracted at an angle into the TV opening and secured there for travel.
I could see covering up the notch at the bottom with an overhanging shelf (i.e., make a new “bottom” shelf for the TV opening), and add a little trim over the back and top of the notch.
The thermostat could be relocated up or down the short wall, depending which way the wires go. The little wall doesn't appear particularly structural - don't think it would affect much that way.
Anyone ever done anything like this?

John
