My generator hour monitor is a mechanical type that makes a 'clack' every 5 seconds. I've seen digital versions online. How about a mod about switching from the mechanical to digital version?

I'll be doing this mod in another month or so since I'll be using my generator much more often as the weather gets hotter. What generator do you have? Onan?

It is Onan. I think it's a 4k.

I was looking around the net today and found this hour meter:
http://mayberrys.com/honda/generator/html/hourmeter.htm
It says it is “pre-programmed” for Honda engines but I see no reason why this hour meter would not work on an Onan. It looks really easy to install too. Check it out.

This also looks interesting… Onan Autostart (wireless)
http://www.cumminsonan.com/autostart/
Start saving now, the onan store lists it for $500

Yeah that's in a whole other league! Some nice features though. Are you going to pull the trigger on that? C'mon, you know you want to. Then you can post your mod here!

I don't think so… I'd rather put that money towards solar panels.

I would rather have solar as well. Of course, I have a portable generator so even more reason to not have an autostart. But a remote start would be nice but they are nearly as pricey.
What type of solar system are you thinking of putting together?

I haven't got that far yet. I'd like to get about 200 watts which i think will run me about 1500 to 2000 w/o installation. I have plenty of time to research it!

Welcome to the forums HitchnRun!
Thanks for the link. I've been considering an hour meter for my Kipor. I had one on a Generac I installed on another TT a few years back. It was an invaluable tool for determining maintenance intervals. Right now, I just log my approximate hours of run-time. Having the hour meter will just make it all that easier.
Do you know if these meters can be adjusted forward? I need to go forward a few hundred hours…

You can always put the hour meter on a 12 v supply for the required time to get your hours.
I installed an hour meter on my Honda EU2000i here.
