I am about to face the most challenging mod I have ever attempted…..This week we took our granddaughter camping…..I turned on the digital converter box to watch tv and nothing….neither box would work…..so now I am going to replace the analog tv's with digital ones…simple enough concept except the tv holes are square…..It is going to take some engineering to figure out how to cover the holes or mount some swing mounts…..I have been searching the internet for replacement tv's that I can find locally so I can go measure everything….It would be a simple task if I could just mount it on the wall but the tv spot is behind the slide in when it is in……so it has to clear the front of the tv……

Had the same problem a few months ago. Had a square opening that housed the old TV but purchased a new rectangular TV. The width of the set and the hole were nearly the same but I ended up with an opening of about 8 inches at the top. I purchased a piece of shelving material which matched the RV wood stain and installed a shelf in the space above the TV. Good spot to mount the HD box for our dish. Don't know if this will help you but it did resolve our problem. Good luck.

How did you mount the tv or did you just use the stand that a lot of them come with???

The cabinet has a sliding shelf that the old TV was attached to. It allowed the set to be pulled out and angled left or right. I retained this and attached 2 shelf brackets to the rear of the TV which were then attached to the sliding shelf. Works really great. The brackets allow for a secure base for the TV which the base that came with the TV would not provide. I also criss-cross the set with elastic cords for further stability. The TV cabinet now looks as if it were designed for the new TV.

I found a 23″ Samsung HD TV at CompUSA yesterday and the width was a perfect fit….I set it up this morning and I think it will work out . I took the 2 screws that had caps on them from the old tv and used them to hold the stand to the slide out shelf that held my old TV. There is enough room behind this set that I may just put DVD's behind the new flat screen…..Now I have to work on finding something for the bedroom……

Way to go. Sounds like a neat mod.

Today I got the 2nd tv and mounting bracket….It has 2″ mounting bolts but I am afraid that they will be too long and go thru the frame to the outside……

Mine has 2″ alum. side-wall studs and maybe 1/4″ of luan but I would not consider a 2″ lag bolt. Have you considered a slightly shorter bolt? This would presume you are able to determine the thickness of your wall and the weight of the TV and mounting bracket. I also assume that you want to mount this on an interior wall and not on a wall inside a cabinet.

It is to be on a outside wall over the bedroom window at the foot of the bed…I did find some shorter hex head sheet metal screws ….I should have installed it then showed it to my wife…but I let her see it and she said why don't you put it on a pull out shelf….Now I have to cantact NASA engineers to work out a slide out shelf that will work….I am starting to believe the old addage ” It is better to ask forgiveness than ask permission”…I would be watching TV now instead of trying to reengineer the wheel……
