Hey Y’all… I am looking for a screen door grill or guard so my Lab doesn’t scratch the screen. We have only had our toy hauler a few months…and within a few days of having it… she scratched a hole in the screen! GGGRRR!

I see they make screen door grills/guards for RV’s but WOW!! They are REALLY exspensive. I want to keep the air flow thru the screen door (the whole reason for having a screen door!)…so the plexiglass thing is a great idea but blocks air flow. Thought about using rain gutter screen but its not finished on the edges. Have some hardware wire…again not finished on the edges.

Does ANYONE out there have any better ideas then I do? Our screen door is an aluminum frame… is 24″ wide x 18″ high is the area I am trying to cover.

PLEASE HELP! ALL ideas welcome!

Make a trip to Lowes in the screen door section you will find a heave fine mesh grill that will keep fido from scratching the screen and still let air in….our 2 cockers kept tearing up the screen, so I found it at Lowes, no more torn screen…..It goes on the inside of the screen door….

I think that I am going to have to do the same thing to our TT having two boxers. They tend to “box” the screen and doors at home when it is time to go out.

I did a google search for “rv screen door grill” and found that Camping World sellls a “decorative” grill for about $40.

Or… here is another one Amazon with free shipping for $37.  Camco 43980

Hope that solves the issues.

I just used a piece of expanded metal.  Cut it to size, sheet metal scres secure it to the door.  It adds weight to the door which I also like.

DH did the expanded metal with our screen and the application went fine and it looked great.  Unfortunately, the dog had a conniption and ate the expanded metal as well :-(   He replaced it with a solid piece, which I hated.  I hate everything that blocks the light and view.

I realize that this would block the breeze coming in the door, but it would be very easy to get a piece of plexiglass cut so that it's several inches wider than the door, and cut to the height that works with your dog.  Attach some velcro to the side of the door and match it to the plexiglass, and simply lean the plexi into the door.  If the dog isn't big enough to pull it down from the top, that should stop him without blocking the veiw.  When you don't want it there, it is flat and perhaps can be simply slid out of the way.

Or why not take the plexiglass and cut as you stated and then, although tedious, mark a grid on the plexiglass for drill locations.  You can drill a lot of holes in a pattern, I'm an engineer so it MUST have organization to the pattern Laughing,  maintain your airflow, light and not allow the dogs to damage the screen.

There is only 1 issue I can see, pun intended, is that dogs can see through the plexiglass which may be cause for acting irradically.

Smile Hi, I believe that Lowes sells a pet proof screen material that's really tough, but he/she might still be able to blast through it. I wouldn't use expanded metal because dogs and cats could get their claws stuck in them, panic, and give you a costly Vet bill.
