Hello All!
We wanted to share our cool cabinet modifications/additions with all of you because we're so happy with the results and think you will love the ideas for yourself.
First, we traded with a good friend. Our computer services for his handy work… what a deal we got. He has a nice little workshop and a great knack for making our requests come alive.
Demolition:
1. We decided to REMOVE the over-the-cab bunk bed from our Class C RV. The platform was left.
2. Pitched the microwave (I was using it for storage anyway). A big space and electricity hog.
3. Finally, we had a good sized open space under the bathroom counter with ONLY a TP Holder… this area had potential.
Making Space:
1. The Microwave was removed and the space was huge… an added door with a magnetic closure was perfect. Hinges on top made this mod work seemlessly. My TV antenna crank now works as a hold open to boot!
2. The bunk area is great storage and the railing keeps us from getting bonked on the head as we drive down the road. We added a removable section in the middle of the railing so I can still get out of the roof top escape hatch.
3. The Bath was the best by far improvement though, it's a wonder the manufacture didn't take advantage of this space in the beginning! A custom BOX was built to fit the space and mounted to the wall and under counter. A drop down door was added to enclose our goodies and the shelf below has dowels keeping other things from flying around during travel. Charlie aslo put a custom TP holder inside to replace the old one.
Notes:
We used two different types of stain for the wood to try and match the existing color. This was very difficult because some of the existing “wood” is actually plastic or wrapped metal pieces. They've turned almost greenish in some areas (our class C is 23 years old!!). I can see the difference but everyone we've shown can't believe it “didn't come that way!”
Check out this link to see the photos and a before and after of the bath. If you have questions or would like to see more of the mechanics of these mods… please let us know.
