Hello,

This is my first post but have been lurking & snatching ideas from this great site for the past couple of months now. I have since installed solar panels, a solar charge controller, AGM batteries, and an inverter as a result of the great contributions from this site.

I too wanted to contribute.. prior to visiting this site had made a flip-down LCD mount for my toy-hauler attached to the bottom of the rear (retracting) bunk beds. You can potentially extend this idea to a ceiling mount by modifying the mount.

first off, here's a couple (crummy blackberry) pictures of the mount in it's stowed position:

Here is a close-up of the locking mechanism for the stowed position:

Here is a group-up shot at the unit in it's stowed position:

Here is a close-up of the hinge area. Note the mounting plate. There is another mounting plate of the same size on the opposite side (on top) underneath where the bed goes that serves as a massive reinforcing washer (thereby sandwiching the bed platform) for a solid mount.

Here is the unit in it's down/use position. It has a nice natural down angle to it (excuse the wiring, I am still figuring out wiring management):

This is a distant shot to give perspective of it's great position. The seat on the bottom left of the picture is one that can flip it's backrest the opposite way (another mod I did) allowing that seat to face the TV.

This is a profile shot of the mount/TV in it's down/use position:

and the other side:

This month has been 8 months in use now. It has traveled through some bumpy roads, potholes, a couple road shoulders, a flat tire vibration, and a tongue drop and has managed to keep this TV alive and well. I personally think that part of it's success was 1) the use of over-spec'd material and 2) the extension of the mount to include the TV (as with all other TVs) bottom mount incorporated into the mount system as seen here:

lastly, another shot of the bottom mount extension:

anyways, hope you like it.. if you have any ideas - lemme know.. i might be willing to try them out.. oh, and yes, I've thought about shock dampeners and motorized applications but none of them really appeal to me.

btw, in case you're interested, this crummy old(er) Panasonc 33″ LCD actually has HDMI. This HDMI is wired to an Acer Revo (google “Acer Revo” for more info). The Acer provides:

1) 720p-1080p movie file viewing (and is hooked up to a speaker selector to output movie audio to all cabin speakers)

2) Internet connectivity for browser, google earth (trip planning), access to email, youtube, modmyrv.com, etc

3) Garmin GPS map application (MapSource) synchronization with GPS units (we use Garmin Rinos for desert riding)

4) is hooked up to a speaker selector that allows to output audio to the exterior speakers

I will take pictures of my own Acer Install and update this post later.. Anyways… hope you enjoyed the post!!!

~cheers~

As mentioned.. here is a shot of the Acer in it's current resting place. This cabinet is right in front of the bunk beds so the HDMI run was only about 20ft. The Acer has a wireless keyboard/mouse & a buffalo wireless USB wi-fi device which links it to a cradlepoint router which has a Sprint Mobile Broadband card.. and viola.. mobile wireless..

(please excuse the construction mess.. we are not done here.. still planning what device will be in the larger hole)

Welcome to the forums flytech and really nice work! I have been toying with the idea of a ceiling mount for a big LCD but was concerned about ceiling strength. Looks like you found a great solution using the bed as a sandwich mount. I suppose that could be done through the roof as well!

I have also been thinking about eliminating the bunks I have in favor of a high tech workstation/weather center/computer/internet/wii/whateverelectronicgadgetyoucanthinkof center. I love my gadgets and need to start using them more on the road.

I have a few Acers I could rig up to the big screen and really go crazy. Looks like I’m gonna hit the drafting table!

Anyway, nice mods and thanks for contributing!
