32″ LCD TV Install

I recently bought a 2005 Pilgrim 30' fifth wheel that came with a DVD player and surround sound, but no TV.  It has an entertainment cabinet with an approximately 26″ opening for the TV.  Since the unit has a rear living room, I really wanted a bigger TV for good viewing.  I decided a 32″ LCD would be a reasonable size.  But, since you can't put a 32″ TV in a 26″ hole, it was necessary to mount the TV in front of the cabinet rather than within it.  I was somewhat dubious of using an articulating arm in a non-stationary environment like a RV, and really quality arms are quite expensive.  I stumbled across a “real deal” on Ebay … a 150 lb rated sliding, swivel shelf for a little over $20 … delivered!

Here's the shelf I got on Ebay for a little over $20 (about $140 retail!):

Rather than buy an expensive VESA mount, here are some heavy duty braces I got at Lowe's for $15/pr.:

I simply drilled the holes to match the 200 mm VESA mount!

After painting them, I bolted them to the TV and to the shelf:

Here's what the setup looks like with the slide extended and the shelf pulled out:

And here's how it looks when the slide is retracted for travel:

I have about an inch clearance between the slide and the TV when the TV is stowed:

I plan to keep the TV stowed against the face of the cabinet with either a bungee or a latch and put felt bumpers on the back of the TV to protect the face of the cabinet.  I think it also might be a good idea to put a warning placard above the slide switch “TV must be stowed BEFORE retracting slide!”Surprised

John

I finished up the LCD TV install by putting felt bumpers on the back of the TV where it contacts the face of the cabinet, and then installed a latch that prevents the sliding shelf (and TV!) from coming out of the cabinet when in motion.

Here's the latch:

This next view gives you a better idea of how it works - you can see the end of the latch blocking a bracket on the slide.  There is just enough tension that you  can gently press the shelf in, engage the latch, and it holds snugly with no rattling, etc.

This reminder placard above the superslide switch will hopefully prevent an expensive accident!

Hope this gives you some ideas on how you want to install your TV!

John

I need to do the same thing but I have a pantry to the left of the TV hole…I would need to figure a way to slide it sideways when I need to get in the pantry……

You might have to go the articulating arm route to be able to move it sideways, although the swivelling shelf will give you a few inches more clearance if you swivel it around.

Sorry about the picture of the woman in the initial post.  Obviously, the post has been hacked.  I reported it to ModMyRV days ago, but nothing has been done to delete it.
