Mod Description:

This modification was designed and completed by ModMyRV member roncryderman. This article carries a copyright. Permission must be obtained from the author before duplication or reposting.

I had difficulty storing fishing poles in an RV with limited space for the long and sometimes awkward fishing poles. I usually put the 4 to 5 poles in a 5-gallon bucket and had that in the back of my truck while towing my 5th wheel.

Noting unused interior wall space above my slide out, I placed plastic broom holders in the open spaces long enough for my fishing rods. There are several different types of holders as I had already installed a similar tool bar in my small closet to hold brooms, a rake and walking sticks from being snarled in a mess during travel. The smaller holders are large enough for the butt-end of the fishing rod and held in place with the tension the holder creates. I used plastic removable hooks to hold up the other end. Removing and replacing poles is very simple.

Mod Difficulty:

When mounting anything to RV interior walls, special care must be taken. The interior walls are thin and electrical wiring may be routed behind the area you want to mount something to. If in doubt, consult your RV’s manufacturer and they should be able to tell you where wiring is located in the walls.

To mount the grip clips used to hold the butt-end of the fishing pole, I used 3/4″ self-tapping screws and double-sided tape. This insures that even if the screw does not provide enough holding strength, the double-sided tape will make up for it. Be sure not to over-tighten the screws as they may pull out if you are mounting to a thin wall.

Mounting the hooks to hold the other end of the fishing pole, I used 3M adhesive hooks. These are the “Command” type that allows you to pull a tab and release the adhesive for removal. It’s too bad this type of attachment isn’t incorporated in to the grip clips. It sure would make it easy to transfer the hooks and clips somewhere else if needed. All you have to do is find the spot you want the hook and simply press in place.

This is a simple, cheap, and easy mod that will help you not only organize your fishing poles, but also brooms, walking sticks, or anything else that can be held by grip clips. And if you have a pass-through front storage area, you might be able to use these clips to mount fishing poles to an unused wall, most likely the front wall. Any unused wall is fair game!

    Nice mod.
To hold my rods, I added small sewer pipe under the bus with screw on caps on the ends.
Holds mine and other stuff also.

The sewer pipe holder is a great idea! What size pipe did you use? Do you hold more than 1 fishing pole in the pipe?

Excellent idea for rod holders. I took the idea in a different direction. using rod holders with heavy foam inserts to hold the metal rod used to pull my canopy down as well as the crank to manually lower the rear supports on my fiver as well as to hold my hot dog weiner and marshmello cooking rod. The rod holders are now mounted to an interior wall in the storage area.

I am new to this forum but have found many great ideas for upgrading my fiver. My camping buddy and I are in the process of doing some of these mods. Great work.

This MOD inspired me to do something similar so I thought I would pass along the info. I was able to find an inexpensive foam rod holder ( http://www.overtons.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?r=view&i=25028&aID=605C&cID=FROOGLE_25028 ) and mount this 5 rod foam holder to the ceiling area of my pass-thru storage area. The foam protects the rods from damage, they are up and out of the way and the foam gives enough of a pinch to hold the rods tight and secure.

May be the same holder mentioned just above.
